Sherman joined MGC as the Director of Regulatory Affairs in May 2021. He is MGC’s Microbiology Subject Matter Expert. Previously, he was with the NJ Department of Health Division of Public Health & Environmental Laboratories (PHEL) for 21 years. Sherman served as the Program Manager for various diagnostic testing units, such as West Nile Virus, BioThreat Response, Drugs of Abuse, STDs, and led the pre-analytical activities in support of SARS-CoV-2 testing at PHEL, acute care hospitals, and commercial clinical laboratories. He also was the Project Manager for starting the State’s Cannabis Testing Laboratory, the Cannabis Microbial Testing Unit, and created the first US Medical Cannabis Testing Regulations by State data set. Sherman was a Senior Research Scientist with Henkel Research Corporation, where he
isolated bacterial genes that expressed degradative enzymes for the chemical industry.
Sherman taught Microbiology at Los Angeles Harbor College, was the creator of the Bioremediation Report newsletter, and an inventor on 2 patents. He received a B.A in Biology from the University of California at San Diego, a Ph.D. in Microbiology from UC Davis, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Molecular Microbiology at The John Hopkins University. Sherman resides in Arizona and in his spare time, he enjoys taking photos of nature, performing community service, and spending quality time with his wife.
